My history with acne
I have had acne since I was eleven or twelve years old. I am now twenty-two. I have tried most major products for acne treatment and acne scar treatment that are on the market, in addition to acne products that are less well-known and various home remedies. I have only found one thing that helped reduce my acne breakouts, though to this day I still regularly experience acne flare-ups. I’ve been told that this is because my skin is extra oily, which is both a blessing and a curse. On the one hand I still have acne, and sometimes it gets pretty bad, and this has caused some people to think that I am younger than I am. On the other hand, I am looking forward to still being mistaken as being younger than I am when I am forty, fifty, and older (that’s what’s happened to my mother).
My history with home remedies for acne
I have tried some pretty weird home remedies for acne in my lifetime. I remember one time my mom, sister, and I were all applying raw egg to our faces every night in a hope that that would work to eliminate our acne struggles. It actually seemed to make my acne worse, and although my mother thought that perhaps that was because the egg was drawing out all the impurities under the skin, I quit because I was frustrated with the seeming counter-productivity of that home remedy. Other home remedies like facial masks from oatmeal and other food ingredients seemed pretty ineffectual with my acne problems. It seemed like the home remedies weren’t any better or any worse for my face than the big name acne products (which didn’t help either; even ProActiv did not clear up my acne, it just dried out my skin and I still had acne!).
What about home remedies for acne for you
I think that the efficacy of store-purchased and home remedies for acne depends a lot on your particular skin. Realistically, acne products are created for the average person with acne troubles and so for the more extreme cases these systems often don’t work. The only thing that I’ve found to work remotely well was when I made the decision nearly three years ago to go gluten-free and cut all wheat, bran, and rye products out of my diet. This is the only thing that I have ever tried that has helped my acne, so I would say that it is the best acne home remedy out there. So if you are up for a major diet change, if you are desperate to get rid of your acne, this may be the best thing to try. And the best thing is that this diet is also good for your health in general, especially your digestion. It’s a win-win!
